Ken Kimmel, M.A., is a Jungian psychoanalyst, psychotherapist, and couples therapist in private practice in Seattle since 1981, and a clinical and faculty member of the North Pacific Institute for Analytical Psychology since 2008. He is licensed in Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling, and over the years has provided both student supervision and consultation and continuing education for practicing psychotherapists.

He is the former Director of the Pacific Northwest Center for Dream Studies and has worked with more than 25,000 dreams, through the practice of psychotherapy, dreamgroups, seminars, and residential retreats. In addition to his Jungian background he is interested in contemporary trends in the various schools of psychoanalysis. Currently he is the Chairperson of the InterInstitute Committee of Seattle, a group consisting of analyst and candidate representatives from the four local psychoanalytic institutes, that sponsors shared educational programs for candidates in training, to foster openness, inclusiveness, and diversity in their learning experiences.

Ken has lectured widely and provided seminars throughout the western United States, most recently on the topic of narcissism and the ways that men may overcome its barriers to love.  His new book Eros and the Shattering Gaze: Transcending Narcissism (Carmel, CA: Fisher King Press, 2011) explores this pervasive problem in our contemporary culture.

  6. The development of the biological and behavioral sciences has prepared the path for the incorporation of the biopsychosocial approach into medical practice. The biopsychosocial paradigm, which defines health as a condition of whole physical, psychological, and social well-being, replaces the biological paradigm's focus on determining whether a disease or infirmity is present or absent in dealing with health and sickness. The core to the biopsychosocial practice is psychology, a behavioral health field that is crucial to comprehending the concepts of health and sickness. Psychologists play a wide range of clinical roles in the healthcare industry, including primary, secondary, and tertiary care, as well as a number of subspecialties.
